About Roslyn Heights
Second in size to East Hills in the Roslyn area, Roslyn Heights, with its irregular boundaries, rounds out the greater Roslyn area along the southern and eastern border with Albertson and the western border with Old Westbury. Never incorporated, this hamlet offers the advantage of no village taxes and is governed by the Town of Hempstead. Though most of Roslyn Heights is in the Roslyn School District, portions of the school-aged population are enrolled in the East Williston School District, and attend The Wheatley School from eighth through twelfth grades. Portions of Roslyn Heights also belong to the Herricks and Mineola School Districts.
In a corner of the hamlet, bordered by the Northern Parkway as it turns southward, is a part of Roslyn Heights known as the Country Club section. This enclave of over 600 homes encompassing about three-fourths-square mile, has changed dramatically over recent years. In the 1950’s, the Levitt Brothers, Inc., developers of the famed Levittown, built a development here of higher-scale homes on larger lots, some as much as a half-acre. As the area increased in popularity and land prices rose, nearly half the homes have been either extensively renovated or razed and replaced with brand new high-quality homes of varying styles. The original homes included membership at the Roslyn Country Club, which is now closed. But officials hope to have a new seven-acre park with pool, tennis courts, playground, and clubhouse built to replace it soon.
Because of the popularity and evolution of the homes in this neighborhood, it offers a perfect place to live and enjoy life, with beautifully manicured and roomy properties, attractive homes, and tree-lined streets with sidewalks. The remainder of Roslyn Heights has smaller sized properties and homes attractively maintained and on tree-lined streets. Stores and restaurants are nearby as is the train station, Long Island Expressway, Northern Parkway. Everything that is within easy reach of Roslyn is convenient also to local residents.
