About East Hills
If you desire a strong sense of community where it is easy to make friends through many fun activities and special events no matter your age, and be within a convenient commute to the city and close to shopping, dining, golf, beaches, and boating, then East Hills may be perfect for you. The largest of the Roslyn Villages, East Hills is well known for its 50-acre, for-residents-only, free-membership, Park at East Hills. Since the park’s completion in 2006, it has been a big draw for families to move here thanks to its fabulous amenities and frequent community events like the Independence Day concert and fireworks, Halloween Spooktacular, and East Hills Day with sports competitions. Residents can enjoy: swimming in the largest municipal pool on Long Island (12,000 square-feet plus 110-foot water slide and water park); tennis courts; fitness center; theater; senior center (a poplar place to gather for bridge), outdoor restaurant (Park Grille); ball fields; basketball courts; jogging and walking trails through its rolling, lush, wooded hillsides; a dog park (with play dates and 24-7 doggie cam); playgrounds; and sledding hill. It is also the home of the Village Hall, since the original building was sold to buy the land for this park from the National Guard.
Another popular community gathering place is the Jacobsen Community Center that offers membership to all. Its activities and amenities include: after-school and preschool care; a 56,000-square-foot sports and fitness center with Olympic-size indoor pool, kiddie pool, hot tub, sauna, gym, personal trainers, indoor track, and basketball courts; a center for the arts featuring music, dance, art, and theater classes; pilates, boxing, and fitness classes; a competitive adult basketball league; free WiFi and valet services.
Covering approximately 2.3 square miles, East Hills consists of northern and southern sections divided by Harbor Hill Road. Transecting the village, this tree-lined drive provides easy access to the Park, the Roslyn High School, railway station, and more. The eastern-most part of the Greater Roslyn area, East Hills abuts Old Westbury to the east and Greenvale to the north at the intersection of Glen Cove Road and Highway 25A, where many shops and restaurants, including Wheatley Plaza, are located. Nearly to its southern border with Alberston, East Hills offers easy access to both the Long Island Expressway and the Northern Parkway (about a 35-minute drive to Midtown, Manhattan, depending on traffic). It is just a few minutes from museums, universities, boating, golf, fine and casual dining, the Miracle Mile, and the Americana at Manhasset. Roosevelt Field mall, along with several big-box stores, is about seven minutes south. The northern section of the village features mostly half-acre properties with stately high-end homes. In recent years, many have been torn down and replaced with majestic new stone and brick residences boasting five bedrooms and five baths or more. The southern half of the village features quarter-acre properties with proportionately smaller homes. Many of these homes have been renovated. All neighborhoods offer tree-lined streets, beautifully-kept properties, no sidewalks, and no on-street parking. The village has its own private security force and private sanitation services.
